To be a writing coach you do not need to be a professional writer or a trained educator. The most important qualifications are that you believe that writing well is an essential skill and can engage with young people in a positive manner.
We work at the request of the classroom teacher during the regular class periods. Scheduling is flexible. You commit to only two periods at a time—one for first drafts and one for second drafts.
We require that all coaches attend one 3-hour training before beginning to coach. We provide on-going coaching support throughout the school year.
Coaches must also pass a criminal background check, and depending on the school, register with the school district as a volunteer. Details will be provided at the training.
If you would like to volunteer to be a writing coach, please fill out the registration form below.
